Headaches & Facial Tension
Chronic headaches and facial tension are often rooted in the jaw — and a dentist may be the key to lasting relief.
If you suffer from frequent headaches, facial tension, or pain around your temples and ears, you may be surprised to learn that your jaw could be the source. TMJ dysfunction and chronic muscle tension in the jaw and face are among the most overlooked causes of recurring headaches — and they are highly treatable.
At Clayton Dental Studio, Dr. Kamboj takes a whole-body approach to oral health, recognizing that the jaw is connected to the head, neck, and shoulders in ways that can produce symptoms far beyond the mouth. Emface TMJ Therapy offers a non-invasive solution that addresses the muscular root cause of facial tension and headaches.
The Jaw–Headache Connection
The muscles responsible for chewing — the masseter, temporalis, and pterygoid muscles — are among the most powerful in the body relative to their size. When these muscles are chronically overworked through grinding, clenching, or TMJ dysfunction, they develop trigger points and tension that radiates into the temples, forehead, neck, and shoulders.
Tension-type headaches that originate in the jaw are often mistaken for migraines or stress headaches. They typically present as a dull, aching pressure around the temples or behind the eyes, often worse in the morning (after a night of grinding) or at the end of a stressful day.
The trigeminal nerve — the largest cranial nerve — serves the jaw, face, and much of the head. Irritation or compression of this nerve through TMJ dysfunction can trigger pain that feels like a headache but originates in the jaw. Treating the underlying muscle dysfunction with Emface can break this cycle and provide lasting relief.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my headaches are jaw-related?
Jaw-related headaches often present in the temples, are worse in the morning or after stress, and may be accompanied by jaw soreness, clicking, or a history of grinding. Dr. Kamboj can evaluate whether TMJ dysfunction may be contributing to your headaches.
I've tried everything for my headaches. Can Emface really help?
Many patients who have not found relief from conventional headache treatments discover that their pain has a muscular, jaw-related origin. Emface directly addresses the muscle dysfunction that drives this type of headache. Results vary, but many patients experience significant improvement after completing their treatment series.
Will I need to stop other headache treatments while doing Emface?
No. Emface is a complementary treatment and does not interfere with other medications or therapies. Dr. Kamboj will discuss your full health history to ensure Emface is appropriate for you.
