Tooth Pain
Persistent or sudden tooth pain is never something to ignore. Let us find the source and relieve your discomfort.
Tooth pain is one of the most common reasons patients visit the dentist — and one of the most important signals your body sends. Whether it's a sharp, sudden ache or a dull, lingering throb, pain in or around a tooth is your mouth's way of telling you something needs attention.
At Clayton Dental Studio, we take tooth pain seriously. Our goal is to diagnose the root cause quickly, provide immediate relief where possible, and develop a treatment plan that protects your long-term oral health.
Understanding Tooth Pain
Tooth pain can originate from many different sources. A cavity that has progressed into the inner pulp of the tooth, a cracked or fractured tooth, an abscess or infection, gum recession exposing sensitive root surfaces, or even grinding and clenching (bruxism) can all produce significant discomfort.
The character of the pain often provides clues: sharp pain when biting may suggest a crack; lingering sensitivity to hot or cold often points to pulp involvement; constant, throbbing pain is frequently associated with infection. A thorough examination — including digital X-rays — allows Dr. Kamboj to pinpoint the cause and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Delaying care for tooth pain can allow infections to spread, damage to worsen, and what might have been a simple filling to become a more complex procedure. Early intervention is always in your best interest.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can I be seen for tooth pain?
We do our best to accommodate patients experiencing tooth pain as quickly as possible. Call our office at 832-889-9090 and let us know you are in pain — we will prioritize getting you in.
Will I need a root canal?
Not necessarily. Many causes of tooth pain — such as cavities, cracked enamel, or gum recession — can be treated without a root canal. Dr. Kamboj will only recommend a root canal if the nerve of the tooth is involved and the tooth is worth saving.
Can I take pain relievers while I wait for my appointment?
Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage discomfort temporarily. However, these are not a substitute for treatment. Please call us so we can assess your situation promptly.
